Vintage sheet music defines the pinwheel pattern. I found a box of old sheet music at a church rummage sale. Most of it dates back to the 1920's and was printed in Germany.
The abstract mosaic design on the clock face is created from pieces of peeled corrugated boxes and primarily uses 90 degree angles. The pinwheel is tilted at a 45 degree angle.
The outside of the frame has been covered with peeled corrugated paper with the glue lines showing. This is leftover from the process of peeling corrugated for the mosaic pieces.
