Ordinary boxes are commonly
made from singlewall or doublewall corrugated. Triplewall is a little more unusual.
The next time you're in a grocery store, look for the giant corrugated
bins that hold melons or bags of vegetables. The first one I got
held bags of carrots so I generally refer to them as carrot corrals. Triplewall is really strong but more difficult to cut.
Wall clocks are generally about 11"x11"x2" deep, but actual sizes and shapes vary. Individual clocks are handcrafted and no two are exactly alike.
Each wall clock is made from recycled materials that are environmentally
sustainable and earth friendly. Both the clock structure and corrugated mosaic pieces are created from clean, sturdy,
100% post-consumer corrugated materials.
These clocks are designed to hang on a wall but the ones that have a flat bottom will stand on a a flat surface but may fall over easily. I have adapted many of these designs into desk clocks and can create a custom wall or desk clock to suit your needs and interests.

After the glue has dried, the clock structure is so strong that I can stand on the bare frame. The corrugated mosaic is a bit more delicate so don't try this with a finished clock.
The surface mosaic is made from peeled sections of recycled corrugated cartons, generally singlewall material.
When selecting corrugated material to peel, I look for interesting colors and a variety of textures. I then cut the peeled material into small squares, triangles, rectangle and/or other shapes to fit into the mosaic design as it develops.

The red and black paper I like to use here is not recycled, it
is imported from Thailand and is very elegant.
Reverse Offset
Originally I put the mosaic on
the clock face and covered the frame with Thai paper. Here I've
covered the frame with the corrugated mosaic and used the paper
for the clock face. The result is a clock where the time is very easy
to read. |
The recycled content of wall clocks is about 95%. Clock works are usually new, not recycled, and run on a single AA battery. Rechargeable batteries are highly recommended. |
The style of the frame and the type of clock face can be mixed and matched on custom orders. |
Custom orders are a great way to create a special gift to celebrate the milestones in our lives:
birthdays, graduations, promotions, weddings, anniversaries, a new business, retirement or seasonal holidays.
It is a unique and very powerful expression of your appreciation of the events and people in your life. |
The traditional first anniversary gift is paper and recycled paper is a very green, renewable and sustainable gift - for any occasion.
The first desk clock I created was a custom order inspired by a wall clock that a woman wanted scaled down to sit on her husband's desk. I almost forgot to make the back panel removable so the battery could be replaced.
Over the years I have created a number of clocks that featured treasured family photographs, favorite hiking trails and children's art work.
A manager ordered three desk clocks to be Christmas gifts for her team leaders. After learning about the interests of her leaders, I was able to create clocks that were specific to each person. The clock for the football enthusiast had a picture of a player leaping to catch a football.
A son ordered a Father's Day gift which featured a map of his fathers favorite stretch of California coastline.
The friend of a boutique shop owner ordered a clock with the store logo as the clock face to celebrate the anniversary of the enterprise.
A business ordered several clocks with the corporate logos of their client companies on the clock faces as thank you gifts. |
I invite you to visit the ARCHIVE section of Corrugated Art, where you'll find a wide variety of clocks and other things I've created over the years. There you will find samples of past work and get ideas for custom or personalized clocks that you can have created for a special occasion.
